Tips For Going To The Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota Below you'll find some tips for those traveling to Sturgis South Dakota during the Bike Rally and Races. These come from seven years of visiting the bike rally from differing angles. |

If you are traveling west on I-90 to Sturgis avoid gassing in WALL. The gas station there is WAY busy due to bikers visiting both the Badlands National Park and Wall Drug. Gas at the exit ahead or if you can hold out until you reach Rapid City.
Get gas at the Rapid City exit where the big truck stop is located. There are plenty of pumps to get you ready for your 45 mile trip to Sturgis and your campground. The key to a hassle free Sturgis experience is a full tank of gas. The food at the truck stop is good too and a nice break to get fresh before heading to Sturgis.
Don't like the showers at your campground? The truck stop in Rapid City will let you use their trucker showers for a small fee like $8.00. After camping you'll love paying for your own private bathroom.
Speaking of Gas, its worth it to choose a campground close to gas station. Nothing worse than starting out in the morning with a light tank and fighting the gas lines around town. If you don't have enough gas to get out of town you'll be sorry.
Getting tired of the traffic and crowd's? Try heading east for a day ride. If you take Hwy 34 east to 73 then head south back to I-90 you'll get a good 300+ mile day ride through some beautiful South Dakota scenery and no crowds. |
