Glencoe Campground Sturgis South Dakota Bike Rally 2004 2004 was my second stay at Glencoe Campground during Sturgis bike week. The more I stay at Glencoe and visit other Sturgis campgrounds such as the Buffalo Chip the more I appreciate Glencoe Campground. In a nutshell, if you want the Sturgis party experience but want nice amenities and don't want to get ripped off on beer than Glencoe Campground is the place. At Glencoe campground you get nice shaded camping that's not overcrowded. Cheap beer and on-site food service that doesn't have airport like prices. Excellent shower facilities and a Sturgis drag strip right next to Glencoe campground. Titty alley, the road running through Glencoe becomes live entertainment after six o'clock. Be sure to bring your beads. Best of all, Glencoe is across the street from the Full Throttle Saloon and the Thunderdome bike show. So close that I walked over to the bar each night so I wouldn't have to worry about drinking and driving. Another nice feature is the gas station next to Glencoe campground. You can gas up or have your scoot washed before taking off for a ride through the Black Hills of South Dakota. Some might complain about the outhouse like bathrooms but when you compare to what most other Sturgis campgrounds have they do keep them decent. As at any place during the Sturgis rally the people are great. I camped solo and quickly found a friendly group who would share their beer cooler and picnic table.

This is the food and beer sales area at the front of Glencoe campground. They sell single and 12 packs of beer at very reasonable prices. Ice is also available. You can always get a cheeseburger or more fancier meal at the covered food sales area. Again the prices at Glenco are very reasonable.
This is my Glenco campsite in 2004. As you can see there is alot of shaded areas. There are motorcycle only camping areas as well as places for trucks and RV type camping. |

Just another picture Glencoe campground. When you compare Glencoe to the barren fields of other well known party type campgrounds you just can't beat Glencoe. At the Buffalo Chip this year I stayed overnight for one night during ZZ Top. It took an hour to get into the Buffalo Chip campground. Another hour to find a spot for my tent and then 25 minutes to walk to the Buffalo Chip concert area. There I found they turned off the taps and only sold beer in bottles for football stadium like prices and the food pricing was through the roof.
This is Titty Alley the road that winds through Glencoe Campground. Bikes and women parade up and down the road sometimes with clothes on too..... |
